Big News !!!
Aleph Baja is now its own 501(c)3 nonprofit, AND we have a new name: “Sal y Roca” (which means “Salt and Rock”). Our new website is on its way, but in the meantime here are some updated ways to donate:
Zeffy
Use a credit or debit card to give one-time or monthly through our secure online giving platform: “Zeffy” (We receive 100% of the donation. Zeffy asks for a tip to fund their platform, but this is completely optional.)
Zelle
Set up one time or recurring transfers directly from your bank account to ours using Zelle.
- Log in to your banking app.
- Select “Send or Transfer money via Zelle.”
- Find us by scanning the Zelle code to the right (from your bank app NOT your phone camera) or search using our Zelletag: “salyroca”
- Note: our bank name may still show up as “Aleph Baja”

Check
Address the check to Sal y Roca and mail it to our new San Diego address:
Sal y Roca
4028 Clairemont Dr
San Diego, CA 92117
Many banks offer automatic monthly check payments as a free service, but we suggest trying out Zelle or Zeffy first

If you have any questions at all about the transition, please feel free to reach out:

Why the change ?
When we moved to Mexico in 2020, Jess and I came with a simple calling: to love our neighbors through the skills and passions God has given us. Aleph Surf International graciously welcomed us under their covering so we could begin serving youth right away. As Aleph Baja grew, our programs placed additional strain on Aleph’s volunteer admin team, and we recognized the need for a board of directors that could walk closely with us and help guide long-term decisions. After prayer and honest conversations with Aleph’s directors, we discerned that forming a separate organization was the healthiest next step. To use a garden metaphor: previously we were a branch growing from Aleph’s tree. Now we are a new tree, growing from the seeds of Aleph. Our mission hasn’t changed — we’re the same people and the same ministry, simply moving into a structure that can better sustain our growth and deepen our impact.
Why Sal y Roca ?
We chose Sal y Roca because it represents the core elements of our work — the salt of the ocean and the rock of the cliffs where youth learn, grow, and take on new challenges. It feels natural in our Spanish speaking community and also carries images from the teachings of Jesus about being salt in the world and building our lives on a steady foundation. It’s a name rooted in Baja, shaped by the activities we love, and representing what we aim to create: transformative experiences that help young people step into their potential.
How will the transition affect my U.S. tax preparation?
Aleph Baja (i.e. Sal y Roca) is a U.S. registered 501(c)3 tax deductible nonprofit public charity: EIN 33-3799797. All donations to the organization can be claimed as itemized charitable giving tax deductions (just as before with Aleph Surf International). For whichever calendar year you transition your giving, you can expect to receive two donation letters: one from Aleph Surf International and the other from Aleph Baja (i.e. Sal y Roca). Other than that, there should be no change for your taxes.
